The carnival atmosphere at the Indian Squash Academy celebrating the World Squash Day was a sight to behold. More than 60 children, parents & officials participated in this gala event.
Five different types of games were organized. Racketball & Badminton on a squash court were amongst it.
Players of the academy was divided into 2 teams- The Red Devils and The All Blacks. After a hectic morning that started at 7.30 am, the Red Devils emerged as winners at nearly1.00 pm.
Prizes were presented by the Indian cricket legend Krishnamachari Srikanth who in his address expressed surprise as to why squash was still not included in the Olympics. He said the large number of participating countries around the world is testimony to the popularity of Squash. His parting shot was “I back the Olympic bid for Squash”.
After the event all participants were treated to a sumptuous banana leaf South Indian meal. What a wonderful day we had echoed many of the young participants.

After a huge night last night with the BIG HIT Launch party, the University of Birmingham are gearing up for World Squash Day, with some of the countries top university players, this should be a great event, and even the President of the European Squash Federation, Hugo Hannes, is making an appearance!
More to follow as the day progresses
We’re Scottish so we’re too mean to print out all those wee promotional things! So I got the guys to hold a sit-up mat and I Photoshopped some text in later.
Did you hear the one about the Scottish squash player who dropped a new squash ball?
- It hit him on the back of the head!
In Memphis, seven players took part in World Squash Day at Rhodes College. They included Peter Lebedevs, Tyler Springs, Alex Petraglia, Shubho Banerjee, Roy Bell, John Kimchoi, and John Branston. They each played at least two games to 20 points in a round-robin format. The turnout would have been larger but this was homecoming weekend at Rhodes and the parking lot was overflowing.
MHSRC have really enjoyed supporting the bid – as it’s half term this week in Leicestershire we held our event last night before members went on holidays as they so didn’t want to miss out! The juniors kicked off things at their last coaching morning last Saturday with the match being even 10-10. This was then followed up by a lively club night last night with members of all ages joining in – with Team 2020 coming out top. We had such a good night – great squash, a bit of racketball, with support from families of all ages (the youngest supporter aged 4, the oldest 73!)But this is typical of squash and why it should be in the Olympics!
Things are going great here. Team 2020 is leading at Physical Park. We designated blocks of time for each level, so competition is fast and furious, one game after another with minimal rest in between. The players like the format.
The Falmouth Sports Club, Falmouth, Cornwall started at 9.30 a.m with our youngest juniors, all very keen to get squash into 2020 Olympics, and the way some were playing some will be participating there!! This was followed by the 10.30 a.m juniors, who were very happy to help get squash in the Olympics, had trouble getting both these groups off the courts!! The adults started at 4pm, with some hard fought matches going on, with no quarter given. A great day, lots of squash, well done to World Squash for organising!! All our fingers are crossed for 2020!!!

Unbelievable day, we are a small squash club outside of Munich with only 4 courts, one with a grandstand only for that day, we played in twelve hours nearly 150 matches, 56 matches team squash vs team 2020, a further 50 matches for our charity marathon, we were able to raise 750 euros that way, and about 30 private duels of inspired new squashers. About 4 newspapers will report about it, all together some 250 people involved all over the day.
we certainly backed the bid. regards Uli
A great day at Ilkley Lawn Tennis & Squash Club. Fun matches were played by squash & racketball players & the day was finished in style by a hard fought match between Ilkley & visiting Adel Squash Club (winners Ilkley 9 – 6). In all had 18 games in the Team Squash v Team 2020 match – score 7 – 11.
“World squash day in Egypt,a day where squash players from all over the country coincidentally gathered in Alexandria’s Smouha club for a tournament that will last till the end of this week.
The tournament hosts hundreds of young aspiring players where they will get the chance to play with World #3 Raneem El Weleily and world #5 Nour El Sherbini, followed by an exhibition match between the 2 young talented players, where Raneem represents team squash and Nour represents team 2020
The match saw amazing shot making and excellent sportsmanship which was a perfect example of how this game should be played and a good example for the next generation.
The match ended 3-2 11-8 in the fifth to Nour, helping her team with 1 more point.
There was lots of Squash going on at different Sports Clubs in Hong Kong yesterday of all ages.
One of the high lights being a Flash Mob held in one of the busiest pedestrian areas of HK.
The video is soon to be loaded onto You Tube.
A photo appeared in the biggest English paper today. There was also television present.
All the key dancers were volunteers who not all even play Squash………….however, very keen to see Squash succeed in its Olympic Bid!
We ran world squash day in conjunction with a memorial day for one of our players who passed away recently, Chris Blacker.
We had a lot of people turn up for the squash and it was a very successful day. We then went to our local pub the Waterside and had a buffet and a few drinks.
We also did a collection for Rowcroft Hospice which is located at Torquay Devon and we are waiting for them to let us know how much we collected.
The Kent leagues started on Tuesday 16th October so the timing of our event for the World Squaqsh Day was perfect. Instead of training sessions on court and in the gym the players of Dulwich, strong and true, gathered at the club to play each other.
The first match between Clark and Brownsdon, both 1st team stalwarts was underway at noon as Clarky had a flight to catch to go on holiday with his girlfriend. He was however determined to play his bit in supporting the bid on behalf of Dulwich which is commendable. Clarky was under strict orders to be at Heathrow by 2p.m. at the latest. His tactics were interesting if a little predictable as he set out to hit winners or the tin to ensure he did not incur the wrath of his partner. Less predictable is that this actually worked and he ran out a 20-12 winner. He may now decide to change his game from the attritional type to the attcking squash he displayed on Saturday.
The others followed at 2.15p.m and continued through to 5.30p.m. Most stayed behind to have a beer or two and support their team mates and then a few more ales after the matches to celebrate a fun day.
As for the match, Team 2020 were coursing ahead until Dogra pulled a match back with a surprise victory over Wilkes. This started a revival and with the match score at 4-4 (10 matches were played) Dawes took on Johnson and pipped him to win 20-19. At 5-4 up it was down to Bates to rescue Team 2020 when he took on Wilson but he failed to do that with Wilson bringing home the victory for Team Squash with 6 games to 4.
The support from the club was fanatastic and the event was thoroughly enjoyed by all.
Onwards and forwards.

hej! my name is Aryan and I am a Swedish squash player. I really don’t understand why we are not in Olympics. I am 19 years Old and as far as I know about squash I think it should be in Olympics from the first day.
squash is an outstanding game.
we have the eyes like an eagle and we are assassins. we know how to kill and when. we are the wrestlers with patience and we see whAt other can’t. we are fighters and everyone thinks it’s just a stupid game hitting the wall like a crazy people. but that’s the thing we know how to become crazy and when to calm. we feel the pain mad we fight till the end of our breath. we are fast and we are smart flexible. all the sports techniques are hidden in our squash. but like I said we are an assassins we don’t show mercy we just win. we are the hunters.
I use to play squash but then I stopped and now I am back because I couldn’t live without this game. I have played all the games but squash is great.
guys just post and help squash to get in to Olympics.
I love squash and I will play until I break everything in me and still I will try. we never give up. we are players and we are champions we are warriors.

World Squash Day sees biggest team match ever
Inverness Tennis & Squash Club hosted its own on-court battles at the weekend, within the global phenomenon that was World Squash Day. With Squash seeking to achieve Olympic status in 2020, Squash clubs all over the world held 20-a-side matches between ‘Team Squash’ and ‘Team 2020’, results contributing to a global team match.
Competition was fierce, with matches being just one game to 20 points: Team 2020 established an early lead through their big guns Davie Wood, Sandy MacDonald, Sean Kelly, George Porter and Piotr Rosol. And despite strong wins by Ailsa Polworth, Ewan Hearns and Jamie MacKay for Team Squash, Team 2020 ran out comfortable winners, Mike Martin’s silky volleying, Ewan Fraser’s energy and Liz Merry’s dogged backhand leading them to victory late on Saturday.
Coach Malcolm MacKay commented: “Alas for Team 2020, although they won here in Inverness by 16-4, when we look at the global situation they were soundly defeated – scores from Squash Clubs around the world resulting in a victory for Team Squash by 4673 to 4592. A great day and part of a really big global effort by the sport. There are some 20 million squash players around the world now in 175 countries, and the sport is in with a real chance of earning its justifiable place in the Olympics in 2020. The fun we’ve all had today, with our top National League players and top-ranked Juniors all joining with recreational players, just sums up what Squash is all about – some competition, some fitness, some socialising and then some curry!”
Premier Fitness a club situated in the Northern Suburbs of Cape Town,South Africa took the lead to organize an event to support this good course. The planning commenced in September and all culminated in the event witnessed Saturday.
We approached other clubs in the area with UWC and Durbanville keen to participate. We decided to make it a fun family orientated event with the main focus being squash. A little table tennis on the side ensured a testing of other skills.
We split to teams in two, namely Team Squash vs. Team 2020.
The proceedings commenced at 9:30 am with a good player turnout of 36 –very close to our target of 40. Even though the underlying theme was social, competition was strong. There was a build up of sweat and all the participants had plenty of fun too.
The match was close going down to the wire. Henry Smith of Team Squash had to beat Trevor Davies of team 2020 to ensure a tie. He managed it and we had to organize a tiebreaker to determine the winner. This added to the suspense with all the spectators packed on court 1 to cheer them on. Team squash triumphed, ending the formal proceedings of the day in style.
We then had a barbeque to feed the hungry players.
In conclusion, a very successful fun day that confirmed squash is alive and well in the Northern suburbs of the Cape. The statement was made –Get squash as an Olympic sport.
The results will be entered on line and we trust the will send out a very clear message to the powers that be that Squash deserves be an Olympic sport.
A big thank you to the organizers of this great initiative and to all those who took time out to participate in the global event. We are positive our actions will have a favorable outcome.
Yours in squash

Only two Games played, had hoped for more but we’re not a big club and Saturday is quiet for Squash – we’re attached to a Rugby Club. Some people played Racketball?? Martyn Wilkinson beat John Findlay 3-2 and Nigel Lister beat Mark Westmancoat 3-1.
Moortown Squash Club. Leeds.
Games at Chapel A were played during a number of events over the weekend. Payers were randomly allocated into the two teams and as many junior members as possible were included – after all, it’s our juniors who are aspiring to play Olympic squash in 2020 (and beyond…).
A great weekend of squash at our club – but they usually are!!
I discovered on Saturday that I am part of an exceptional worldwide community when we all came together to celebrate World Squash Day and back inclusion of Squash in the 2020 Olympics.
Our local squash club at Willoughby held an open day to support their juniors program and the 2020 bid. The day started at 10:30am with the first game between Kerry Peterson and Michelle Martin. At 89 Kerry is an inspiration to us all and still has one of the most accurate drop shots in the club (having spent many years perfecting it!!). We had many families join us through the day with the youngest player of the day picking up a racquet for the first time – at 3 what she lacked in style she made up for in enthusiasm.
Dominic Benacquista played 4 hours straight and tried to finish the day with a doubles game but couldn’t final a partner. Steve Lacey and James Dampney challenged him anyway with the losing “team” having to do 20 court sprints. After playing double or nothing they regretted their bravado at about sprint 27…. Michelle Martin and Aaron Frankcomb were incredibly generous with their court-time playing all comers through-out the day. It wasn’t just the A grade players that turned out, we had all levels of squash played at the club during the day with everyone getting a good run.
Joe Picello’s generosity in donating the sausages for the bar-be-que was legend and appreciated by all the “very hungry” players.
Lasanka Perera impressed with the effort he put in to the day from the media he arranged for Willoughby’s World Squash Day event in the lead up to the day, to getting the big screen TV set-up to watch PSA Squash TV and setting up the inflatable court on the day. World Squash Day at Willoughby would not have happened without Lasanka’s energy and support.
Scott Johnson took the photo’s on the day and captured some of my favourite moments; from Kimberley Johnson’s triumph, through the Kennedy’s competitiveness, the outdoor “inflatable” squash action to well deserved drinks at the end of the day – Scott’s photos tell a great story.
You are all amazing and I feel privileged to be part of this community. For me the day proved how fun and accessible the sport we love really is. Back the bid to make squash an Olympic sport and…
LET’S ALL DO IT AGAIN NEXT YEAR!!
What a fantastic day. Haileybury Squash club in Hertfordshire England has a fantastic day with players of all standards taking part. We even threw in some doubles games to make it interesting. I think its fair to say this was a huge success and that everyone who took part really enjoyed the experience and got into the spirit of the day. we certainly hope squash makes the record books and also makes the Olympics! Our club is really pleased to have been part of such a great day and play a part in the success.
We had 18 players play and team squash came out victors. However, most of the games were very evenly matched with a number going to the wire and sudden death giving the 20-19 result. At the top of the club level, Karl Pyle played 2 wining 1 and dropping 1 19 pointd to 20 versus the club #2 david Gandolfo. A new comer to the club, Adam clark had some good games however lost 2. Paul gandolfo played 2 and won 2 however the second game was a close call at 20-19 to Freddie Englander who lost his second game 19 to 20 as well, what a couple of close games for him. Andrew Humphries came out 2 game up when he played Freddie and the first team captain Guy Hessing, who lost both games. Other players included Pierre GNorman Bradford, Arnie Englander, Bob Price, Adrian Stemp, Darren morgan, James Kendrick, Ray evans and more. It was a huge success and all the guys want to make this a regular feature.
WSD 2020 was held at the Fish Hoek Squash Club, we had 22 squash players involved raging from ex pros like myself to 10 yrs old as well as beginners.
We had a fabulous time and Team Squash won the Day 8-3 all matched were played in the best spirit. A big thank you to all those at Fish Hoek who made the effort to take part in this Global record breaking event
Each year has been a great success and we should all be proud of our efforts to get squash in to the 2020 Olympic games.

World Squash Day – Singapore’s United Condo Squash Club (UCSC) Backs the Bid!
Embodying everything that the Olympics represent, “Citius, Altius, Fortius”, Latin for “Faster, Higher, Stronger”, squash rackets can no longer be ignored by those who will be making the decision on which sport to include in the 2020 Olympics. The World of Squash came together on Saturday 20th October 201 to showcase to all sporting authorities around the globe that squash rackets truly deserve to be recognized as a global phenomenon in the sporting arena.
Singapore, once East Asia’s squash kingpin in the late eighties and early nineties, did its bit by actively participating in this global event, epitomized by one of Singapore’s premier squash clubs, the United Condo Squash Club or“UCSC” , a five-time winner of the Singapore National Squash League’s “Club of the Year” award, which made a strong statement for squash rackets when more than 60 participants descended upon the Yio Chu Kang Squash Centre, either playing or providing logistics for the World Squash Day event. With the participation of several national squad members from both the senior and junior ranks all the way down to social players (both young and old) who simply love the sport, it was quite a spectacle to behold and which piqued the interests of many bystanders and passers-by who made enquiries and came to know more about this phenomenal sport which brings so much to its participants by way of health benefits, social integration and completing the life of many a sports-person.
UCSC truly Lives & Breathes Squash … Love Live Squash!
